portfolio management
Alterna Wealth Management views its team as an innovative group,
possessing a wealth of knowledge in the realm of traditional portfolio management, as well as
alternative investments and asset classes.
Investment portfolios are managed through a unique Portable ALPHA asset allocation approach,
concurrent with the investment guidelines and risk tolerances established by the
client. By design, our investment approach strives to produce above average, long-term risk-adjusted returns with minimal downside and market risk.
We believe three unique features add the most value to a portfolio over time:
- ASSET ALLOCATION
We believe that asset allocation is the most critical component to a successful investment program,
as it helps to create proper diversification across several asset classes. Innovative portfolio management extends beyond traditional
Stock and Bond allocations, into several alternative and non-correlating asset classes, creating a portfolio designed to
possess an optimized allocation and superior risk-reward structure.
- INVESTMENT SELECTION
In addition to traditional Stock and Bond investing, our
portfolios extend into asset classes such as Real Estate, Commodities, Private Equity, and
investment managers with an Absolute Return and Market Neutral focus. We believe that centering
portfolios solely around Stocks, Bonds, and Cash tends to be a short-sighted approach, while layering
in additional, non-correlated asset classes to the portfolio has the dynamic effect of reducing risk and
increasing expected return.
- PORTFOLIO REBALANCING
Movements in prices of financial assets cause asset class allocations to drift from their original policy
target levels. Simultaneously selling outperforming and buying underperforming asset classes and managers
is an integral risk control measure and function of discipline to ensure long-term investment success.
A deviation from the original policy target allocation causes the portfolio to have lower than desired
expected risk and return characteristics.
